If you have a favorite book, your enjoyment doesn’t have to end at the last page. There are lots of things you can do to supplement your reading and help the book become even more alive:
- Listen To The Audio Book - If your favorite book has an audio book, download it onto your mp3 player or listen to it the car. Hearing somebody read it to you gives it a much different feel.
- Watch The Movie - Check the Internet Movie Database to see if a movie or TV series has been created based on your book, and watch it. If you don’t find one, try searching by the author’s name - the movie title may be different than the book. But do remember that Hollywood takes a lot of liberties with books, and you may not like the outcome.
- Find Other Books That Take Place In The Same Time Or Location - If your book takes place in the South, find other books that take place in the South. If your book takes place in the 1950s, find other books that take place in the 1950s. It will give you some great insight into a place or era. Ask your local librarian for suggestions.
- Visit A Location From The Book - If your book took place in a real location, visit it if you can. Tip Diva went to Prince Edward Island, Canada after reading the Anne Of Green Gables series. Her next book destination is Savannah, Georgia, home to Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil.
- Learn Something From The Book - Perhaps there’s a dish mentioned in the book. Learn how to cook or bake it. Perhaps a dance is mentioned. Learn the steps. Perhaps a character likes certain music. Check out clips on the Web.
- Learn More About The Author - Read up on the author by visiting his or her website or checking out websites like LitWeb, Biblio or Wikipedia.
- Read More Books From The Author - You can find out what else the author has written through his or her website or through Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. Make sure to check for any pen names, as well.
- Find Similar Books You May Like Through Amazon.com - Amazon has a feature that will suggest other items based on what you like - so search for your favorite book, and check out what the site has to offer. Also read members’ lists for more suggestions through Listmania!
- Write A Story With The Characters - If you like to write, try creating your own story with the characters from your favorite book. Where did they leave off when the story ended? What will happen with them in the future? What happened before the story began? Heck, even write yourself into the story!
- Cast Your Own Movie - If a movie hasn’t been made about your book, try creating your own movie cast. A lot of people make videos about their dream movie casts and put them onto YouTube. For instance, here is a cast based on Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.
