Top Ten Tips - Going To A Summer Concert

concertConcerts are one of the best parts of the summer. If you’re attending a concert this season, here are ways to make your experience more enjoyable:

  • Dress In Layers - Nights can get chilly quickly, so make sure to grab a light sweatshirt or cardigan to throw over your t-shirt.
  • Know The Rules - Venues prohibit certain items, like coolers, backpacks, alcoholic beverages and camera. You can try sneaking these items in (Tip Diva hides her camera in her bra), but be prepared for confiscation.
  • Beware Of Open Containers While Tailgating - If you tailgate before the show, some venues have a no-open container policy for alcohol and will confiscate cans or bottles. Just bring plastic cups or put the drinks in pitchers. Remember to be responsible about drinking, and never drink and drive!
  • Be Prepared To Be Frisked - More venues are frisking people upon entry to check for drugs, alcohol and other contraband. Leave everything in your car if you don’t want it thrown in the garbage or worse - your getting in trouble.
  • Keep A Poncho Handy - If you’re going to an outdoor venue and there’s a chance of rain, bring a poncho with you. You can pick them up at almost any drug store or variety store, and they fit easily into your purse or pocket. Don’t bring an umbrella - concert-goers behind you won’t be happy.
  • Use The Restroom And Buy Food/Memorabilia During Least-Favorite Songs - Use the restroom and purchase food and memorabilia during your least-favorite songs. Otherwise, you’ll be contending with the rest of the concert audience during intermission and the end.
  • Remember Bug Spray And Sunblock - If you’re going to an outdoor venue, bring bug spray and sunblock. Apply before concert. If you need to apply them again during the concert, be respectful of other concert-goers and spray in an open area.
  • Move Your Way To The Stage, But Don’t Annoy People - You can move close to the stage, but don’t push, step on or otherwise annoy other concert-goers - otherwise expect security to remove you from the area, or worse, have another concert-goer take the matter into his or her own hands.
  • Ask Security Or Event Manager To Move You If Someone’s Annoying You - If you are seated near an obnoxiously drunk person or another person who is ruining your concert experience, ask a security guard or event manager to move you. Many times, they’ll move you to empty seats - even closer-to-the-stage ones.
  • Leave Before The Encore To Get Out Quickly - If you want to beat the traffic getting out of the venue, leave before the artist goes into an encore. Otherwise, sit it out until the other cars leave, or you’ll find yourself in a long line of traffic.
