Christmas is five months away, but who says you can’t start celebrating in July? Here’s how:
- Read The Christmas Story - Take out your Bible, open to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, and read about Jesus’ birth, the real reason for the Christmas season.
- Watch Holiday Movies - Break out classics like It’s A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story and have a movie marathon with your family, your friends, or yourself. Some television stations have even joined in the fun, dedicated a weekend in July to play Christmas movies.
- Make Frozen Hot Chocolate - A staple of New York City’s famed Serendipity 3 restaurant (which played a role in the John Cusack-Kate Beckinsale film Serendipity), frozen hot chocolate is a great substitute for its winter counterpart. And the recipe is straight from the restaurant. If you’re looking for a more adult recipe, try Alton Brown’s eggnog ice cream recipe.
- Make An Ice Cream Snowman - Just because there isn’t snow on the ground doesn’t mean you can’t make Frosty inside. Zoom has a great recipe for an ice cream snowman, which is especially fun for kids to make.
- Decorate Some Trees With Outdoor Lights - They don’t even have to be red and green lights - most party stores have outdoor lights in every color now, so try something summery like pink, blue or yellow.
- Make Some Of Your Favorite Christmas Recipes - Make some of your favorite Christmas recipes, whether it be a turkey, pumpkin pie or cookies.
- Hold A Small Gift Exchange - Have a small party and gift exchange with family and friends. Give limits - like under $10 or handmade only.
- Get A Head Start On Your Holiday Shopping - Now’s the perfect time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping - just think, no mess, no lines, no hassle, and you can start stocking up on sale items. For more, see Top Ten Tips - Preparing For The Next Holiday Season.
- Send Out Your Christmas Cards Early - If you have extra Christmas cards, why not send them out now? Everybody waits until December, but then people become busy and sometimes forget. Your family and friends will likely get a kick out of a Christmas card in July.
- Throw A Christmas In July Party - You can incorporate many of the ideas already mentioned, but also throw in Christmas decorations, activities, and perhaps a Santa Claus dressed in shorts, sandals sunglasses and a beard!
