If you have old newspapers or magazines and don’t know what to do with them, don’t fret - there are plenty of ways to recycle your pile:
- Donate Magazines To A Library - Many libraries will happily take donations for their magazine circulation department.
- Bring Magazines To A Waiting Room - Doctors’ offices, emergency rooms and other waiting areas can be boring if you don’t have something to amuse yourself. See if spaces you know of accept donations for their waiting rooms.
- Give Magazines To A Local School - Some schools use donated magazines for school projects. Call your local elementary or high school to see if they’ll accept donations, and make sure the magazines are age-appropriate - you don’t want a third-grader reading Playboy or Cosmopolitan.
- Use Magazines And Newspaper For Art Projects - Magazines and newspapers have plenty of applications in arts and crafts, from the projects themselves to table coverings to avoid paint stains. Try paper mache or making your own paper.
- Line The Bird Cage - Newspapers make great bird cage liners and are easy to dispose of after the bird’s dirty deeds.
- Control Weeds - Lay down newspapers, about 10 sheets thick, around your plants, wet them thoroughly, then top them with some mulch. It’s cheaper than the black sheets of weed blockers, and decompose after a year.
- Wrap Presents - Use the comics page or other colorful pages for unique wrapping paper.
- Cushion Breakables - Use multiple sheets of newspaper or magazine pages to cushion breakables and separate plates and glasses.
- Make Fireplace Kindling - Roll up sheets of newspaper or magazine pages and use them as kindling for fireplaces.
- Wash Windows - Use newspaper instead of paper towels to wash your windows, and they will sparkle - streak-free!
