- Do Not Speak Loudly On The Phone - Whether personal or business calls, keep your voice low enough that your co-workers can’t hear you, yet the caller can still hear what you have to say. Loud chatter can be distracting, so also…
- Keep Your Personal Chatter To A Minimum - Sharing anecdotes here and there is fine, but co-workers don’t need to know about every play your child made in baseball or about your detailed visit with the doctor. It’s distracting.
- Wear Headphones - If your workplace allows you to listen to music, put on headphones. Other people may not like or are distracted by your music.
- Tidy Up Your Workspace - Keep your workspace somewhat organized so that if your co-worker needs something from you, you can easily find it without delay.
- Return What You Borrow - If you borrow office supplies, documents or other items from your co-workers, return them promptly. You never know when they’ll need the items again.
- Respect Each Other’s Work Time - Don’t interrupt your co-worker while he or she is working on important tasks unless he or she tells you it’s okay to do so. Even then, respect his or her work time.
- Leave Odors At Home - Leave heavy perfumes and smelly lunches at home; no one wants an odorous assault.
- Acknowledge Ideas - Don’t steal your co-workers’ ideas; make sure you acknowledge what theirs.
- Acknowledge Achievements - If your co-worker receives a promotion or praise for a project, be sure to congratulate him or her on a job well done.
- Treat Others Like You’d Like To Be Treated - Overall, treat your co-workers how you’d like to be treated. Think of what annoys you, and try not to do it to anyone else.
