Father’s Day is for celebrating that special man in your life - and not just your father, but perhaps a grandfather, uncle, older brother or close friend who’s been like a father to you. Don’t know what to get that person? Here are some creative and unique ideas:
- Think Of His Interests - Is he a handyman? Avid car collector? A fisherman? Reads often? Loves sports? Think of his favorite things to do, and get her something that is part of that hobby.
- Get Him A Magazine Subscription - Magazines make a great gift that keep on giving for a year or more, and there’s something for everyone. They’re affordable, too - for instance, you can get 26 percent cashback from Magazines.com through Ebates. Sports Illustrated is currently priced at $40 for 56 issues, 82 percent off the cover price - and you get $10 cash back. For that price, why not get him two magazine subscriptions?
- Sign Him Up For A “Of The Month” Club - There are “of the month” clubs for almost anything imaginable, from beers to cheese to neckties. Club-Offers.com has a list of over 120 different clubs for you to chose from.
- Cook His Favorite Meal - Father’s Day can be busy for for restaurants. Instead of competing for reservations or sitting in a noisy restaurant, why don’t you cook a meal for him yourself? Now it’s summer, so it’s a great time to fire up the grill. There are great recipes at Chow and other places on the Web. And if you have siblings, enlist their help - perhaps one could make a salad, and another, dessert.
- Take Over His Tasks - If your father is a busy guy, take over his chores and tasks for him to give him some time to relax, like mowing the lawn, doing work around the house and running his errands. You may even want to give him the gift of filling up his car’s gas tank.
- Take Him Out For The Day - It doesn’t necessarily have to be Father’s Day, but consider spending a day together, just the two of you. Go to a favorite music concert or sporting event, or dinner and a movie. The possibilities are endless.
- Avoid Generic Cards - Buy a Father’s Day card ahead of time, not a day or two before when everything has been cherry-picked. And buy something that really speaks of your relationship - one could always tell a harried, generic card. If you can’t find a card that says what you want to say, get a blank card and write a poem or letter, or create your own.
- Know What He Has Enough Of - If you’ve gotten him a mug for the past 20 years, realize he probably has enough mugs and doesn’t need another, unless he truly collects them.
- Beware Of Gift Certificates - Gift certificates are popular for the person who doesn’t know what to get or for a picky recipient. However, many cards do expire or have fees, and with many retailers going bankrupt nowadays, the gift certificate may become useless quickly.
- Remember That Every Day Is Father’s Day - Don’t just shower your father with love one day of a year. Think of all he’s done for you! Remember to call him, drop in to say hi or let him know you’re thinking of him. As Superheromike says, with a little inspiration from Mr. T, “Treat Your Poppa Right.”
