Everything is more expensive today, and eating out is no exception. But there are ways you can save and still feel satiated:
- Order An Appetizer Instead of Entree - Because restaurant portions are so big, an appetizer can easily substitute a meal. You’ll save both money and calories.
- Drink Water - Sodas and other drinks can set you back $2 or $3 - even more if you don’t get free refills. Ask for a slice of lemon with your water to give it some flavor. Or you can even make use of the free packets of sugar and make a light lemonade.
- Share - Split an entree with a friend. A plate sharing charge may be in place, but it’s still cheaper than ordering two separate entrees.
- Doggy Bag Half Of Your Meal - Eat only half of your meal and save the other half for another.
- Try A Buffet - Many all-you-can-eat places - especially Chinese - get you more bang for your buck.
- Order From The Dollar Menu - Ordering a burger, drink, and fries (usually all small) is cheaper than buying a value meal. It will still satiate your hunger at a lower cost, calories and fat.
- Eat Dessert Elsewhere - Desserts can be overpriced, so head to a bakery or ice-cream shop where you can get the same dessert for cheaper.
- Use Coupons - Check online, in entertainment books and in newspapers for cost-cutting specials.
- Go When Specials Are Offered - Some restaurants have lunch specials until 3, so have dinner a little early. Others let kids eat free, or have 2-for-1 specials.
- Join Customer Rewards Programs - Some restaurants have rewards programs that will give you a reward, such as a free dessert or entree, for every certain amount of meals you buy or dollars you spend.
