You’ve been working all week, your house is in disarray, and you’ve just received a phone call that a friend will be stopping by for a visit in two hours. How are you going to get the house cleaned quickly? It’s called cheating:
- Start With The Bathroom - Put toilet cleaner in the toilet and let it sit while you clean the rest of the house. Quickly swipe the bathroom with a mop and disinfectant wipes, including the sink and shower stall. If you don’t have time to do the shower stall, just close the curtain and pray you don’t have a nosy guest.
- Move On To The Living Room - Straighten out pillows, fluff up couch cushions and tackle the coffee table. If you have to…
- Throw Everything Into A Box - Shove everything into a box and put it in a room where no one will see the items. You can do this for every room in your house.
- Throw Dirty Dishes In Oven - When you get to the kitchen, swipe everything down with disinfectant wipes. If you don’t have a dishwasher or time to wash the dishes by hand, put them in the oven or unused cabinet until the guest leaves.
- Dust Everything Eye Level And Below - Don’t go crazy dusting high shelves or places anyone can’t see - you can get to those later. Only dust places that the guest might see.
- Only Sweep And Vacuum What You Can See - Now’s not the time to get every nook and cranny or go underneath the couch. Go around furniture, but just make sure to get obvious dust bunnies and cobwebs.
- Cheat On Windows - Quickly swiping them with Windex and a paper towel doesn’t take long, but if you really have no time, open the window all the way and pull the blinds halfway down. If the blinds are dirty or it’s too cold to open the windows, close the curtains.
- Quickly Straighten Wayward Displays - This includes pictures, bookshelves and collections.
- Put The Air Freshener Away - Don’t go crazy spraying the house with Lysol or Febreeze - people will know you’re trying to hide something. If the house smells, trying airing it out for a little bit by opening windows, or light scented candles. The latter also provide nice ambiance, and you don’t have to turn the lights up all the way. The less electric light, the less mess you can see!
- Lock Rooms No One Should See - Bedrooms and offices should be locked or off limits. You can hide some of your mess from other rooms in here until you can really get around to cleaning it.
Now, go back to the bathroom and flush the toilet. Your quickie cleaning is done!
