Learning new software can be a daunting task, but you can master the program in no time. All it takes is a little patience and some tip following:
- Evaluate Your Needs - Before buying software, ask yourself if you really need a complicated program. For instance, if you want to edit your family photographs, there are simpler software titles than Adobe Photoshop that will remove red eye, correct the photo’s color and crop it to the correct size.
- Evaluate Your Skill Level - If you don’t have good coordination, a program that need sharp mouse mastery may not be the one for you. If a program will require you to go to four years of college just to learn it, skip it. There is bound to be something easier for you to learn.
- Consult The Manual - This is the logical first step - read the software’s manual or CD/DVD. This will cover the basics.
- Pick Up A For Dummies Or Complete Idiot’s Guide Book - For even better knowledge, pick up a book from one of these series. They have books for plenty of popular software products, from Microsoft Office to Adobe Dreamweaver.
- Take A Class - Public libraries offer classes on popular software titles, especially in regards to office suite products and photo editing. If you want to learn something more advanced, like Adobe Flash, consider taking a class at your local college. You may even want to pay a college student to teach you one-on-one.
- Find An Online Tutorial - Tutorials can be found all over the web, both by experts and by normal users like yourself. Just Google! You can also find step-by-step video tutorials on YouTube and VideoJug.
- Ask An Expert - Hope on the software’s website for customer support, or find online forums, such as Craigslist, to ask questions.
- Play Around - Sometimes the best way to learn software is to click around.
- Learn From Your Accomplishments And Mistakes - Each time you make an accomplishment or mistake, write it down so you remember how to do (or avoid doing) something.
- Practice - Just keep up at what your doing, and you’ll get the hang of it. Who knows, you may soon be an expert yourself!
