Google is much more than a keyword search engine. Here are some tips on how to get more out of some of Google’s other search-related features:
- Search For Images, Videos, News, Blogs And More - If you look at the top, left-hand corner, you will see links pointing to specific search functions. If you want a picture of Paris Hilton, don’t bother sticking it in the regular Google search. Click on images, and type Paris Hilton there - voila.
- Do Your Math - Just stick the equation in the search form, and click “Search” or hit “Enter.” Instant calculator! Use for all sorts of numeric conversions, from teaspoons to cups and square meters to square feet.
- Forget The Webster’s - Just type in define: plus the word you’re looking for, and get a myriad of definitions and sources.
- Learn Currency Exchanges - This is much easier than updating your computer calculator’s software. Google’s currency conversion is usually up to date. Just put in something like 21 euros to USD and hit enter, and you’ll find out how many dollars equal 21 euros (as of posting time, it was approximately $32).
- Find Out The Time In A Different Part Of The World - Before you call your friend in Luxembourg, Tokyo or Chicago, make sure to check out the current time by typing time in plus the city you’re searching.
- Determine If You Should Bring An Umbrella - Get a four-day forecast by typing weather in and your ZIP Code or city.
- Get Stock Quotes - Type in the ticker symbol and everything you need is right there. Get some LUV, for example.
- Find A Local Restaurant - Type in the type of food you like and your location, like pizza Miami, and get a quick list of local restaurants and websites.
- Feel Lucky - Type in your search query, click “I’m Feeling Lucky” and be taken directly to the first web page Google returns (basically, it’s the most popular site about that keyword).
