  • A Sewing Kit - For holes and quick mends, always have a sewing kit on hand. It should contain different colors of threads - at minimum, white, black, tan, navy and red. Also have sewing needles, straight pins, a scissor, hem cutter, thimble and threader. You can find sewing kits at your local drugstore or craft store.
  • Safety Pins - Safety pins are a must for last-minute fixes to problems such as missing buttons or holes. Have a variety of sizes in both gold and silver.
  • Hemming Tape - Hemming tape, usually iron-on, takes the guesswork and pain out of hemming pants or a skirt. It’s also a quick fix if you don’t have time to sew.
  • Stain Remover - Always stock a quick stain remover, such as Tip Diva’s favorite, Tide To Go. She stocks one in her closet, work desk and purse to quickly take care of stains.
  • Lint Roller - A lint roller is a must, especially if you wear dark clothes or own pets. There are different types out there, but Tip Diva finds the most effective is the sticky-paper lint roller.
  • Lint Shaver - If you own sweaters or have clothes that pill easily, get a lint shaver and use regularly to keep your clothing looking like new.
  • Shoe Polish And Buffer - To keep your shoes shiny and scuff-free, make sure to have shoe polish and a buffer.
  • Garment Tape - If you have shirts that are a little baring (think Jennifer Lopez’s famous Grammy Awards dress) or slip easily, invest in garment tape. It will keep your straps and fabric where they’re supposed to be and helps avoid wardrobe malfunctions.
  • Iron - Make sure you have an iron on hand to smooth out any wrinkles. If you don’t have time, you can alternatively throw your clothes in the dryer for a few minutes or try Downy Wrinkle Releaser. But fresh-pressed clothing always looks the best.
  • Extra Buttons - Make sure you have a box of buttons for any wayward fasteners. And remember to save the extra buttons and thread that comes with new clothing! You can always organize them by putting them in a little Ziploc bags and noting, for instance, that the button belongs to your pink dress shirt.
