Shopping can be quite cumbersome if you don’t plan ahead. Try some of these tips to make your retail experience a little easier:
- Park Close To Where You Are Shopping - There’s nothing like dragging your shopping across a crowded parking lot, with cars zooming around you. If you can, park close to where you’re shopping to make life easier.
- Map Out A Plan - Strategically map out how you’re going to shop to make carrying bags, trips to the car, stopping to eat and using the bathroom easier.
- Keep Receipts In One Place - Instead of having some receipts in the bags, some in your pocket and some in your bag, pick one spot to keep them in. This will make searching for receipts easier later on, especially if you have to compare one to a bill or return an item.
- Make Multiple Trips To Car - If you’re going to have a lot of bags, make multiple trips back to your car to lighten your load. Make sure to keep the bags out of people’s sight (a truck or even covering them in the back set with a blanket would be ideal) and lock your doors.
- Carry A Good Purse - You don’t want to be searching through multiple zippers and compartments for your cell phone or wallet. Carry a bag with simple compartments that stays on your shoulder, and preferably zips up to discourage pickpocketers. Messenger bags work well.
- Don’t Lose Sight Of Your Bags - If you put your bags down to pay for an item, try on a sweater or grab a bite to eat, make sure they stay in your sight, as they can be easily snatched. If you have to use the restroom, bring them into the stall with you. If you have too many bags to bring in the stall, go and make that trip to the car!
- Keep Money Or Credit Card In Handy Spot - Instead of fumbling around for cash or plastic, keep them both in a handy spot in your bag. You don’t want to be digging around for your payment method when the time comes… it will only slow you and other customers down.
- Consider Delivery - If items are too large or cumbersome, consider home delivery if a store has the option.
- Consider Shopping Online Then Picking Up - Again, if items are too large or cumbersome, or if the store is always chaotic, you may want to consider shopping online and then picking the item up in-store. Many national retailers allow you to do this, and you get to skip the line and go straight to the customer service counter. This is also great if you don’t feel like fumbling for your payment method.
- Ask For Help - Many stores have employees or concierge services who will help you with your items, give you directions and make your shopping experience easier.

I like online shopping. The only other thing that I could offer is for people not to shop on an empty stomach. It takes away the joy of it all. :D
Alexys - an empty stomach does help while walking through Whole Foods or Costco. Samples! ;)
