Maybe you’ve moved to a new neighborhood and would like to make new friends. Or perhaps you want to branch out your social circle a little bit. How do you go about doing so? Here are some tips on how to meet new people:
- Attend Events - When your friends invite you to a party or there’s a cocktail reception to celebrate a grand opening, go! Don’t turn down invitations, because you don’t know who you might meet.
- Join A Club Or Team - If you have a hobby, try joining a local club. Ask your local library, community center, school or YMCA about what clubs are offered.
- Volunteer - Volunteering is a great way to meet people. Check your local school, house of worship and library for volunteering opportunities, or try some well-known organizations like Habitat For Humanity or Big Brothers Big Sisters.
- Take A Class - Meet like-minded people at a class, whether academically or for a hobby.
- Try Online Communities - MeetUp.com and Yelp are great ways to attend community events with people who share the same interests as you.
- Throw A Party - Invite friends, and ask them to bring people you haven’t met before.
- Go To A Park - Parks are a great way to meet people. Join a game of Frisbee, or bring your pooch for a romp in the dog park and chat up other pet owners.
- Join A House Of Worship - If you’re religious, try joining a house of worship. You’ll meet people with similar religious beliefs, and most have some sort of community events and prayer.
- Eat At A Community Table - Many restaurants now have community tables, which force you to eat with people you don’t know. Tip Diva and Tip Dude went to San Francisco last summer and stayed at the Red Victorian, where they met some interesting French tourists at a breakfast community table.
- Speak Up - Try starting a conversation with a random person, whether it be a neighbor, someone at a party or someone browsing similar books at a store. Starting off with a compliment or question usually works.
