Tip Diva has very big feet - a woman’s size 10, wide width, or “Flintstone Feet,” to be exact. Shoe shopping can be an absolute nightmare for her. She knows other who loathe shoe shopping as well, but many times, it’s because a person does not know how to properly shop for shoes. Here are some tips on how:
- Shop In The Afternoon Or Early Evening - Your feet are always their largest size at this point of the day, as they swell from the pressure and walking around all day.
- Bring Appropriate Socks With You - If you’re going to be buying sneakers, bring athletic socks with you. If you’re going to be buying high heels or wingtips, bring dress socks with you. They affect the fit of the shoe, and you want to be comfortable in the socks you will be wearing with those shoes.
- Get Sized - Many shoe stores have a shoe sizer, a tool which the salesperson will use to find your general size and width. This will help steer you towards the correct shoes.
- Try On Shoes - If you know you’re a size 8, don’t just buy shoes in a size 8 and assume they’ll fit you. Try them on, because different manufacturers have the same number, yet different sizes. Tip Diva, for one, ranges in size from 9.5 to 11!
- Walk Around The Store In Shoes - Gauge how you can walk in the shows. Are you unbalanced? Do they wobble? Do your toes feel pinched? And don’t just walk three feet either - walk up and down a couple of aisles.
- Consider Your Environments - First, consider your health. Do you have problems like back pain or diabetes? Certain shoes may not be right for you. Also consider your daily routine. Weigh buying stilettos if you’re going to be on your feet all day at the office.
- Ask For Help - That’s what salespeople are there for. If you can’t find a shoe in a certain color or size, don’t despair - just ask. Many shoe stores put extra stock in the back or on the top of the shelves. Other times, shoes may come in wide widths and you may not know it.
- Consider Styles - If you’re going to spend considerable money on shoes, think twice if they’re not timeless. Those $600 leopard-print wedges may be the in thing today, but will land you on the “Worst Dressed” page tomorrow. Buy fad shoes at cheaper shoe stores, like Payless, and save dropping money for beautiful, classic black leather pumps.
- Buy Appropriate Supplies - If you need supplies like shoe trees, wax, shoelaces or padded insoles, you’re in a one-stop shop. You want to keep your new shoes in tip-top shape.
- Maintain Your Shoes - If you want your shoes to last, maintain them properly. Store them and keep them in a good state of repair, and your shoes can be your best friends for years to come.
