Christmas - and the holidays, in general - seem to fly by faster and faster each year. By the time Christmas is over, you sit back and wonder, “Where did everything go?” In between shopping and all the preparations, we don’t take the time to enjoy Christmas anymore. But remember, it’s not over yet, so here are some ways to bring back the spirit to the rest of your season:
- Relive Christmas Memories - Talk about your Christmas memories with your loved ones. Look at old photographs. Share stories with children. Write this year’s memories down in a book, and take plenty of pictures for future Christmases.
- Share (Or Start) A Tradition - Whether it’s baking Christmas cookies, or singing carols around the piano, share your Christmas traditions with someone who isn’t familiar with them. Also try something new, perhaps food or an activity. You may find yourself a new tradition!
- Visit Your Loved Ones - And not necessarily with presents, but your presence.
- Reconnect With Old Friends - Call, e-mail or visit with those you haven’t seen in a long time. Reconnection is a wonderful feeling.
- Give Some Of Your Time To Others - There are plenty of ways you can do this: volunteer for a charity, offer to help someone need or do something as simple as babysitting for a parent who needs some relaxation time.
- Surprise Someone - It could be with a present, a simple hug or a nice gesture. Do your best to make someone’s day.
- Watch Christmas Movies And Listen To Christmas Music - Whether It’s A Wonderful Life or “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” movies and music are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
- Make Your Favorite Holiday Recipe - Make sure to make enough for yourself and others! If you need a place to start, why not try some of these Christmas recipes?
- Visit Christmas Sites - Whether it’s the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree or just lights around your neighborhood, make it a point to go outside your usual area and see different things. There are so many holiday things around you - just check your local newspaper or online.
- Take Time To Reflect - If you’re in the middle of all the hustle and bustle, just stop. Take a few moments to reflect on the real reason for the season and make a promise to enjoy it for all it’s worth.
What does the holiday spirit mean to you?
